The offer list for Merling now includes Clemson, South Carolina and North Carolina, but that may change soon as Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia and Michigan State are showing interest.

Merling continues to list Clemson, South Carolina, Georgia and Kentucky as his top 4, but it sounds like the in-state schools may have an advantage. "Clemson and South Carolina are recruiting me the hardest. I will probably stay in-state."

Merling was a gameplanning nightmare for high school coaches during his junior season when he caught 9 touchdowns as a tight end and totaled 10 sacks as a defensive end. "Clemson, Georgia and North Carolina are recruiting me as a tight end. South Carolina and Kentucky are recruiting me for both tight end and defensive end."

The 6-6, 240-pound prospect, who runs a very impressive 4.6 forty, has changed his timeframe for a commitment over the past few weeks. "I plan on making a commitment once school starts," stated Merling. Previously Merling had stated that his commitment would come on signing day.

Coach Scott is recruiting Merling for the Tigers and he continues send Merling a lot of mail. "I continue to get a lot of mail from Clemson," said Merling. Expect the attention from the Tigers and Gamecocks to increase over the next few weeks since Merling has decided to make a commitment over the next few months.
