LB Jazz Johnson
6-0, 245, 4.8
Litchfield High School
Gasden, Alabama

The 6-0, 245 pound defensive star from Litchfield High School currently has offers from Mississippi State, Mississippi, Vanderbilt and South Carolina. Expect that offer list to increase as LSU, Auburn and recently Clemson have show significant interest.

Johnson listed Mississippi State, South Carolina, Mississippi, Clemson and Auburn as his top 5 but it is clear that Mississippi State holds the current lead.

"I told Coach Cooper at Mississippi State that I would commit to them," stated Johnson. Although Mississippi State is the current leader, the battle for this prize recruit is far from over. "I have interest in all of them. I just want to go to whoever wants me the most."

The Tigers will get their chance to impress Johnson when he visits Clemson on July 18 with his talented teammate LaDontae Harris. Coach Swinney is recruiting Johnson for the Tigers so you certainly can't count out the Tigers. "Clemson is recruiting me at middle linebacker as are all of the schools," said Johnson.

Harris, who is one of the top receivers in Alabama, is planning to commit to the Tigers during his visit. Will the commitment of his teammate influence where Johnson decides to play his college football? "I would definitely like to play with LaDontae. We are second cousins but we both have to look out for ourselves."

Johnson has wanted to play in the SEC since he was little but the recent ACC expansion does have him looking at the ACC along with the SEC. "It's been my goal ever since I was little to play in the SEC. I wouldn't mind going to ACC either. It will probably be the SEC or ACC for me."

We will continue to keep you updated on this outstanding linebacker from Alabama, right up through signing day 2004.
