Tyrone Crowder and his high school team are off to a 3-0 start, winning all three contests in convincing fashion. Despite the early season success and being one of the favorites to win the 4A state championship, Crowder and the Raiders have not gotten caught up in all the hype.
"It all starts with what we do every day," said Crowder following a 58-0 win over Anson on Friday night. "We know what's expected of us. We know there is going to be some hype – some people doubt us – some people expect us to do this (win every week). But we just keep on going – we treat every game like it's state championship.
The Richmond County star made some tough decisions a few weeks ago, when he narrowed his list of possible schools to four.
"I got Stanford, UNC, Georgia, and Clemson," Crowder said. "It feels pretty good. It kind of takes a little pressure off. I had a big list (of schools), so it was kind of hard to narrow it down. I haven't set up any official visits, but I'm going to take some officials and see how it goes."
Does the No. 3 offensive guard in the country have a leader?
"I couldn't really say, "he said. "Right now, everyone is even – since I just narrowed it down. That's why I'm just going to take more unofficial and official (visits).
While he said he does not have a leader, Crowder said Clemson and North Carolina are recruiting him the hardest. He does not have decision date at this time.
"I don't have an official date," Crowder said. "Hopefully, after I take my officials, I will know by then. I kind of want to take my officials during the season."
Crowder is looking for a few specific things in a school.
"First is education," he said. "Then a place with a great campus lifestyle. I'm not too worried about playing time. If I have to redshirt, that's fine. If they call me in to start my freshman year – I am going to step up."
For now, the four-star prospect is focused on his football season.
"Our goals are to just really come out and play as a team," said Crowder. "Last season, we weren't really clicking as a unit. Now, we have this thing about trust in each other – just to keep going – and come out and practice and play hard."
