Timothy to sit on Saturday

CLEMSON - Following practice on Wednesday night, Dabo Swinney announced that Gifford Timothy will not be available for the Ball State game.

As of Wednesday night, Shaq Anthony on track to start at right tackle.

"I'm disappointed that Giff hasn't been able to get where we quite need him to be," Swinney said.

The redshirt sophomore from Delaware tore his meniscus during preseason but played against Auburn last Saturday. He missed the final offensive play from scrimmage against the Tigers after re-aggravating the injury.

Timothy has not practiced the last two days.

"He could probably go [in the game]…we're going to try to get him a little further along. He's going to be OK. He's still a little sore," Swinney said.

When asked about his level of confidence in Anthony, Swinney said, "Just OK."

He added, "He's a freshman, about as confident as you can be in a freshman on the offensive line. He's a talented player, but he's a long way away from being a finished product."

As for the rest of the team, Swinney is pleased with what he's seen on the practice field. There's no concern about fighting off a hangover.

"It's been a pretty workman-like week. I'm anxious to see them play. I want to see them respond from last weekend, and not make some of the same mistakes that we made," Swinney said.

He noted that Ball State is "a solid team."

"These guys are going to make some plays. This quarterback is very good. This running back is very good, strong, tough runner," Swinney said. "They've got some skill guys that can do some things and they know what they're doing...I wouldn't be surprised if they move the ball a little bit and make some plays."
