The bounce back game

Fresh off Saturday night's emotional loss at Florida State, Dabo Swinney and company will have to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and get back to work.

With just a handful of juniors and seniors on the roster, the head coach believes it could be tough to bounce back for the upcoming trip to Boston College.

"Hopefully, that won't be the case here," he said. "That's what our job as coaches is to do, is to teach correct, motivate and keep developing, keep bringing individuals and the team along. That's what we're going to do. Nobody wants to lose a ball game, but the season's not over.

"It's the same thing for Florida State on the flip-side. It's a huge, emotional win for them. You've got to give them some credit, because they played from pretty much the whole game, until the fourth quarter when they really took it over. They handled a lot of adversity. They've got to keep playing."

Swinney made an example of the 2011 Florida State team.

After the Seminoles lost 35-30 in September to Clemson, they followed up the next week with a road loss in Winston Salem.

"We've got to do a good job of focusing on what we can control. We still, certainly, have a chance for a great season. There's a lot of things out there for this team," Swinney said. "Anything can happen in this conference. There's no telling what's going to be going on in November.

"It's college football. Things happen. That ball bounces funny, sometimes. There's a lot of things that go on in college football.

"What you better do is take care of yourself, control what you can control. Then, you look up and see where you are. If you've got an opportunity, great -- the main thing is, you want to try to have a great season and be the best that you can be."

Last year's November struggles could serve as a tool for Clemson to learn from in 2012.

"Anytime you've got experience in your background of success and failure, I think you learn and grow from those things," Swinney said. "You draw on those experiences when you have disappointment. Last night was a big disappointment. This is a young team. These guys put a lot into it. They had it right there in their fingertips and just couldn't finish it. That's very, very disappointing, but I think we've got good, solid leadership on this team." Top Stories
