Clemson defensive tackles coach Dan Brooks delivered the news to the 6-foot-4, 190-pound prospect.

"It was unexpected, but it was some great news to hear," Gibson told CUTigers last week.

He added, "It was Tuesday night and I was on the phone with coach Brooks, and then he offered me on the phone."

Brooks detailed the logistics behind the offer.

"He was telling me that they had finally got to sit down and watch my film and the defensive coaches loved what they saw, so they wanted to go ahead and offer me," Gibson said.

The Tigers have offered Gibson as a safety.

What stands out about Clemson?

"It seems like they're going to coast through the ACC. That stands out, of course."

The Gray's Creek High School [Hope Mills, N.C.] junior already had an offer from N.C. State. North Carolina has also joined the mix since Clemson offered.

"I'm thinking about going back there, to Clemson, and maybe taking another trip to UNC. If I'm lucky, I'll take a trip to Louisville," Gibson said.

So far this season, Gibson has 69 tackles and four interceptions and scored three touchdowns. Top Stories
