Clemson adds 1st Commitment for 2002

Larry Shyatt picked up his first commitment for the 2002 class when Shawan Robinison confirmed he will be attending Clemson University. The Tigers fought off Stanford to claim this 6-2, 170 point guard/shooting guard from Raleigh, NC.

He was also considering N.C. State, Richmond, Minnesota, Tennessee, Xavier, and Appalachian State.

Shawan comes from a basketball family, as his father is his head basketball coach at Leesville Road High school. "I guess the big thing was the ACC," Darryl Robinson, Shawan's father and coach said. "I just think Shawan growing up around here in the ACC and having his friends and family being able to see him, that was a factor. Clemson really wanted him. The did a great job."

He has excellent ball handling skills and many experts believe him to be a strong candidate to follow in the shoes of Will Solomon. Last season he averaged more than 15 points and 6 assists a game while leading his team deep in the playoffs.

Shawan is a strong student as he finished this past year with a GPA of almost 3.4 and has already has scored over 1000 on the SAT.
