Clemson has lost the last two games to South Carolina since reeling off six wins in a row over the Gamecocks.
Brad Brownell would love to pick up his first win against the in-state rival and boost the morale of Tiger fans.
"The longer you're here you develop more of a dislike for your rival. You can't help but be that way," he said. "Frank [Martin] gotten in any barbs like the football coaches have, but the longer that we're both here, you never know what might happen."
Martin, the fiery first-year coach spent the last five seasons as the head man at Kansas State.
"South Carolina is a team that plays really hard, obviously takes on the personality of their coach," Brownell said. "Frank has done a phenomenal job. At Kansas State -- he's doing some good things already at South Carolina, a little bit of a younger team, a little bit like us, obviously, in transition like we are."
Four of South Carolina's starters average double-digits in scoring.
Plus, Bruce Ellington, who could be the most talented player on the team, played in his first game of the season on Thursday night against St. John's. He scored seven points and played a team-high 29 minutes against the Red Storm.
"[South Carolina] have some guys that can really shoot the ball from the perimeter, some dangerous 3-point shooters," Brownell said. "Certainly, LaSahy Page, the new guy they got from Southern Mississippi, is a dangerous scorer…Brian Richardson, guys that can really make shots.
"And I really like Michael Carrera, the inside freshman that plays exceptionally hard, rebounds the fire out of the ball, finishes in the lane."
On the defensive end, "They play a unique style, very difficult to play against, because of how hard they guard. They take away passes, very much a pressure defensive team.
"We expect a very hard fought, competitive, physical game against them on Sunday."
On offense, "They run a little bit of an old 2-3 high offensive wheel-type action that Johnny Orr, maybe even Jack Hartman -- I'm not positive on that one -- ran back in the day. Dana Altman from Creighton, who's now at Oregon, runs a variation of it that is unique, high-post-type cutters and handoffs and ball screens off the high post.
"Then, they do some Kansas-type motion, some high-low motion and then run some tradition sets, a couple of tradition sets and things," Brownell said. "[They] play aggressively; go to the offensive boards with reckless abandon. They really are hard to keep off the glass, a pretty versatile deal, really."
