Clemson hosts fast-rising forward

The Clemson basketball staff welcomed a couple of visitors into town for last Saturday night's game versus Arizona.

Among those guests was Cullen Russo, a 6-foot-8, 205-pound senior from Southern Tech in Charlotte, N.C.

"It was good. I liked it. I liked the environment. It was really good. The coaches showed me around, met a couple of players, I got to meet the head coach. They showed me around the facility," Russo recently told CUTigers.

Originally from Minnesota, Russo played at Kennedy High School [Bloomington, Minn.] and Quakerdale Prep [New Providence, Iowa].

Clemson has been recruiting Russo for the last few months. Assistant coach Mike Winiecki serves as the point man for Clemson in Russo's recruitment.

"He just talks about the overall goal of what the coaches are trying to do with their players and where they're trying to go with the program, what kind of players they're looking for," Russo said.

Along with Clemson, several other schools are currently expressing interest. Miami, Rutgers, LSU, Minnesota, St. Bonaventure, Saint Louis, Missouri State and Western Kentucky are also pursuing.

Miami, St. Bonaventure and Drake have offered.

As a junior at Quakerdale Prep, Russo averaged 9.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists. Top Stories
