QUOTEBOARD: Clemson 80 FAMU 57

CLEMSON - Finals are over, Christmas is almost a week away and just about the only other students left on campus are football players.

Heading into Saturday night's 80-57 win over Florida A&M, Brad Brownell urged his team to approach the game with right frame of mind.

"How are you going to approach it," he asked them, before the game.

"Certainly, you can find excuses for non-performance.," Brownell said. "They're out there all the time."

The Tigers produced an acceptable answer. No excuses were needed after Saturday night's route.

"[Brownell] wanted us to be mature about the game, instead of laid back, because the crowd wasn't into it," Rod Hall said.

Halftime adjustment…

"Discipline is important and it's real easy to lose focus and just play the game, make it feel like you're not playing the game the right way. I don't like it when we're not playing it the right way. I don't like when giving up a basket doesn't bother us, because we know we're probably going to get one on the other end." - Brownell

"To him, it didn't seem like we were playing very hard. It was kind of a pick-up game, in a way. [Brownell] said good habits and discipline would carry over. We need to have a good second half and those good habits and discipline will carry over to bigger games like UNC, N.C. State." - Roper

"[Brownell] just told us to be disciplined and lock in." - K.J. McDaniels

"Defense kind of changed the tempo of the game. Once we got our defense going, the rebounds got it out and it kind of stayed fast." - Hall

"We came out in the second half, I thought our starters did a really good job of establishing the one in the second half, kind of pulled away and got to enjoy the last 10 minutes." - Brownell

Roper with 16 points in first start…

"I think I handled it pretty well. Of course, I made a few turnovers, a few costly turnovers, but I felt like I played pretty well." - Roper

"He made shots, which was good to see. He's got to continue to get better, defensively, plays with confidence. I think our guys feel like he's a guy that can make shots for us, so that's good. It was a looser game, so there were more shots to be had. But give him credit, he made the ones when he was open, he knocked them down. For our team, right now, that's something we desperately need." - Brownell

"Rope is a gifted shooter, I would say…to have him come out and do that, it definitely allows to have extra depth out there on the perimeter." - McDaniels

"I'm just here to do anything to help our team win." - Roper
