Big challenge ahead

CLEMSON - Once again, left tackle Brandon Thomas will be charged with blocking one of the nation's premier pass rushers.

But that comes with the territory when you're protecting the quarterback's blindside.

Last time out against South Carolina, Thomas crossed paths with Jadeveon Clowney. It wasn't always pretty.

"From that game, I learned a lot. I learned that I just have to stay poised. Going into the second half, I just have to stay with my game plan, don't get away from it, and stay focused," Thomas said.

Against LSU in the Chick-fil-A Bowl, he'll square off with Sam Montgomery.

"A talent like Clowney, going against the best in the SEC, basically. Then, Montgomery is right up there," Thomas said.

Montgomery, a redshirt junior from Greenwood, leads LSU with seven sacks and is second with 12 tackles for loss.

"I like playing against those kinds of talents, to show what I have, to show my talent and my skill. It'll be a great challenge, and I accept it," Thomas said.

In his first-year as a full-time starter, he's performed well. Thomas' play was recognized at the end of the season when he was named first-team All-ACC by the media and second-team All-ACC by the league's coaches.

"It's exciting. I looked for the opportunity at the beginning of the year to show what I have. That opportunity to get that, it's just real exciting," he said.

The New Year's Eve bowl will allow Thomas an opportunity to put a bow on what's been a solid first full season as a starter.

"They're a good team, but I think we'll come out and be ready to play them," Thomas said. "It's a great opportunity for us to come out and show what we have as a team and as an organization." Top Stories
