One more hurdle in sight

After spending the fall semester at Hargrave Military Academy, Shaq Lawson has made the qualifying grades to be accepted into Clemson.

The former Daniel High School standout spoke with CUTigers on Thursday afternoon as he was leaving the Virginia prep school.

"It feels good. I came up to Hargrave focused on my grades and playing football. That's the main thing I did at Hargrave," Lawson said.

The former three-star prospect in the 2012 class finished last semester with one A and four B's.

What's next?

"I'm just waiting on the Clearinghouse to clear it."

That could happen within the next few days.

"Hopefully tomorrow or Monday," Lawson said.

The deadline for spring semester enrollment is the 15th.

If Lawson's accepted by then, he'll be able to participate in winter matt drills and spring practice. The Clemson coaching staff is certainly excited about Lawson clearing this final hurdle.

"They told me congratulations and they're ready to keep me down there," Lawson said.

He looks forward to having the opportunity to make an impact.

"I just want to get down the playbook, work hard and earn a spot during the spring," Lawson said.

He finished the post-graduate season at Hargrave with 64 tackles, 13 sacks, 21 tackles for loss and seven forced fumbles.
