QB Chason Virgil Profile
West Mesquite High School sophomore Chason Virgil was the recipient. It was his first offer.
"I was in choir class. I looked down at my phone and I had a message from my brother. He was telling me congratulations and I was like, ‘Congratulations on what?' And I'd seen on my Twitter I had a lot of mentions," Virgil told CUTigers on Monday night.
After class, Virgil spoke with his West Mesquite coaches.
"They were telling me congratulations and asking me if I liked the school, things like that. I haven't talked to any of the Clemson coaches, though," he said.
Virgil is the second prospect from West Mesquite to pick up an offer from Clemson. The first was 2014 defensive back Dylan Sumner-Gardner, who committed to the Tigers last summer.
"[Sumner-Gardner] told me it's a great campus. It's a great school and great people down there…he said they've got a great program and school," Virgil said.
The 6-foot, 170-pound quarterback is pretty familiar with Clemson, more so than your average high school sophomore in the state of Texas.
"[Last year] I had to do a project on a school that we liked and just learn stuff about it, basically like what tests they take. Basically, what you have to do to get into that school," Virgil said.
He chose Clemson.
Baylor has also been in contact, but Clemson has expressed the most interest -- as evidenced by the Tigers' offer.
As a sophomore, Virgil completed 170 of 272 passes for 2,315 yards with 21 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also rushed 83 times for 395 yards and three touchdowns.
