Commitment capsule: Green

The next featured commitment in our capsule series is one of the newest members to Clemson's 2013 haul, athlete T.J. Green.

The commitment: ATH/KR T.J. Green, Sylacauga HS [Alabama]

Date committed: Jan. 27, 2013

Ranked: Three-star, No. 55 S

Other options: UAB, Kentucky, Cincinnati, California, Auburn

Position status: Where exactly Green will play could depend on who else the Clemson staff is able to land in the final week before signing day. Green, who's classified by, could play there or on the other side of the ball, at wide receiver. Both positions are those of need. There is ton of inexperience at safety. At wide receiver, there's potential for a lack of experienced depth beyond 2013.

The evaluation: In this day and age, it's hard to believe that a prospect can fly under the radar as long as Green did. At the end of his senior season, Green's only offer was UAB. For whatever reason, Auburn overlooked Green after his solid performance at last summer's camp, where he turned in a 40-yard dash time of 4.45 and a 31.5-inch vertical jump. He's got the senior film to back up those mesaurables. Projects better as a wide receiver. He tends to shy away from contact when meeting a ball carrier head on. On offense, he shows very good hands and ball skills, uses size and leaping ability to his advantage to high point the ball -- needs to improve route running.

Estimated impact: 2015. Given his status as a late bloomer on the recruiting trail, it's probably a safe assumption that he'll need some time to adjust to the college game. Couple that with the question mark regarding his position -- it's worth taking a conservative stab at the date of his impact. Maybe more so than anyone else in his class, Green's date could be moved up. His potential as a kick returner could allow for an impact as early as this fall. Top Stories
