Commitment capsule: Dye

Just a few days away from signing day, the commitment capsule series continues with four-star running back Tyshon Dye.

The commitment: RB Tyshon Dye, Elbert County HS [Elberton, Ga.]

Date committed: July 20, 2012

Ranked: Four-star, No. 27 RB

Other options: Auburn, Tennessee

Position status: With the departure of longtime starter Andre Ellington, the No. 1 running back position appears to be relatively wide-open. Roderick McDowell emerged last season as the primary option behind Ellington, so it would seem that he's in line to get the first carry with the first-team when spring practice opens next month. Given his size, McDowell will likely carry the load with a couple of others. D.J. Howard and Zac Brooks will have another spring to emerge before Dye and Wayne Gallman arrive to campus this summer.

The evaluation: Dye is a football player. He can do so many things well on the football field and it is not a given that he will be a running back in college. He plays running back with a linebacker mentality and he is a very physical player with speed to pull away from defenses. He is not a back with a lot of wiggle, but he can make cuts, and he plays fast. If he is not a running back, he could end up at linebacker or safety. - Chad Simmons, National Recruiting Analyst

Estimated impact: 2013. We're of the opinion that Dye, who fits the power back mold that Chad Morris covets, is one of the more skilled running backs Clemson will have on its roster this season. A good spring/summer for both Brooks and Howard could potentially push Dye's impact date back another year. Top Stories
