Commitment capsule: Pagano

Up next in the commitment capsule series is four-star defensive tackle signee Scott Pagano.

The commitment: DT Scott Pagano, Moanalua HS [Honolulu, HI]

Date committed: July 24, 2012

Ranked: Four-star, No. 29 DT

Other options: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame

Position status: The only defensive tackle addition to Clemson's roster in 2013, there's isn't necessarily a rush to play Pagano this season. All five of the top defensive tackles from last season are back -- Josh Watson, Grady Jarrett, DeShawn Williams, D.J. Reader and Carlos Watkins. Behind that first five, there are several other potential options already on the roster -- Tra Thomas, Roderick Byers and Kevin Dodd.

The evaluation: Pagano is a load on the defensive line and has a tremendous amount of strength and good quickness that could allow him to be either a defensive end or tackle in college… Needs to work on playing a little lower but he's quick enough and strong enough at the prep level that he can get away with it in high school. - Brandon Huffman, Scout.com

Estimated impact: 2015. Over the last four seasons, Dan Brooks has gone with a five-man rotation at defensive tackle. With the first five back from last season, it could be difficult for Pagano to crack that rotation this fall. Assuming everyone stays healthy over the next several months, Pagano is likely to redshirt in 2013. And everyone from the five-man rotation is on schedule to return in 2014, so Pagano could have to wait his turn for a couple of seasons.
