Commitment capsule: Tankersley

If Cordrea Tankersley makes the qualifying score on the ACT, he'll enroll at Clemson in May. He's up next in our commitment capsule series.

The commitment: ATH Cordrea Tankersley, Hargrave Military/Silver Bluff HS

Date committed: June 8, 2011

Ranked: Four-star S

Other options: South Carolina, Miami

Position status: Tankersley could play a couple of different positions once he gets to Clemson. Originally, Clemson planned to start Tankersley out at cornerback with an option to move him back to safety, and that appears to still be the plan. But given the high number of defensive backs signed in 2013, wide receiver could be a spot for the former 2012 signee. Safety, either free or strong, is another option.

The evaluation: Tankersley is a very good athlete that is very versatile… As a safety, he is really long and rangy and has good straight-line speed. He can cover a lot of ground in the secondary, he can close on the ball well… When playing receiver, he really gets to show his down field speed. He consistently gets good separation, he gets off the ball quickly, and he has good ball skills. - Chad Simmons,

Estimated impact: 2013. It's rare for prep school placements to redshirt once they arrive to Clemson. Assuming Tankersley stays at defensive back, he could compete for a spot in the two-deep depth chart at either safety position. And, of course, that's based on the assumption that he makes the qualifying test score. Top Stories
