Looking ahead to 2014: DE

After adding three defensive ends in the 2013 class, the Clemson staff will look to take another in the 2014 haul.

Several highly-touted class of 2014 prospects at the position have already picked up an offer from the Tigers.

Four-star Jalyn Holmes secured his while visiting from Lake Taylor High School in Norfolk, Va. last summer for the Dabo Swinney Football Camp.

The No. 13 defensive end in the country recently listed Clemson among the eight schools he's considering. Also included in that group are Alabama, Florida, Maryland, North Carolina, Southern Cal, Virginia Tech and Florida State. Holmes could end up staying close to home.

Norcross [Ga.] three-star Lorenzo Carter has been one of the hottest prospects of the month, landing offers from several programs across the country. The 6-foot-6, 235-pound prospect visited Clemson in November for the South Carolina game.

Clemson, along with Florida State, Alabama and Georgia occupy spots in Carter's first group of favorites.

Another Georgia three-star with a Clemson offer is Eagles Landing Christian Academy's Andrew Williams, who's been on the Clemson radar since his the spring of his freshman year.

Williams has over 30 offers, and he's close to narrowing his list down to five. Clemson, thanks to the work by defensive ends coach Marion Hobby, is in position to make that cut. Notre Dame is another likely contender for a spot in that final group.

A trio of North Carolina defensive ends have a Clemson offer -- Page High School's [Greensboro] Lorenzo Featherston, Rose High School's [Greenville] Kentavius Street and Olympic High School's [Charlotte] Robert Dinkins.

Featherston, who checks in at 6-foot-7, 215 pounds, visited Clemson earlier this month for Junior Day. He holds offers from North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

Street has over 10 offers and could be visiting later this spring.

Dinkins, a North Carolina commitment, has kept Clemson under consideration because he grew up a fan of former Tiger Da'Quan Bowers.

The top end in the state, Kalan Ritchie, has a Clemson offer. Listed by Scout.com as a tight end, Ritchie is the No. 7 prospect in South Carolina's loaded class of 2014.

The Goose Creek prospect also has offers from South Carolina, Virginia Tech, N.C. State and UConn.
