Clemson offers hard-hitting safety

Earlier this week, Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables informed this 6-foot-1, 195-pound safety that he had an offer from the Tigers.

The recipient of that offer was Wheeler High School [Marietta, Ga.] junior Allen Artis.

Clemson, offer No. 12 for Artis, was added to his sheet on Tuesday.

"[Venables] said they like my film and I was at the top of their list, and they want to offer me a scholarship," Artis told CUTigers in a recent interview.

Before Tuesday, there wasn't much contact between Artis and Clemson.

"They talked to my coach before and invited me to their junior day a while back, but that was about it," he said.

That, of course, will now change.

"I'm going to go up to their junior day in March and try to get up in the spring again," Artis said.

What does he know about Clemson?

"Not much…they had a pretty good season, they beat LSU. That's about it."

With 12 offers to his name, including Auburn, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Michigan, North Carolina and Tennessee, Artis has no list of favorites.

And there is no timeframe for a decision.

"I don't have anything at this point," he said. "I'm trying to just weigh all of my options and take everything in."

Artis has visited Tennessee, Auburn, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest. He'll head to North Carolina this weekend.

Several factors will be considered as he moves through the recruiting process.

"Education, play good football and, I guess, playing early," Artis said.

As a junior, he had 140 tackles and three interceptions. Top Stories
