Coleman will not return

CUTigers has confirmed Clemson Lady Tigers head coach Itoro Coleman will not return to the team next season.

Clemson was eliminated from the ACC Tournament Thursday after a 56-45 loss to N.C. State.

The Tigers finished the season 9-21 overall, including a 5-13 mark in the ACC.

New Clemson Athletic Director Dan Radakovich is scheduled to meet with the basketball staff this morning to announce the news, according to a source.

Coleman, a former player for the Tigers, came to Clemson in 2010 after a successful stint as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Penn State for three seasons.

She was an All-ACC point guard for Clemson from 1995-99 when she led Clemson to its only two ACC Championships in history.

Her three years leading Clemson saw the program make strides in recruiting, however it never translated into consistent wins on the court.

Clemson inked the No. 9 recruiting class in the country in 2012, bringing in elite talent such as Jonquel Jones and Danaejah Grant, but both players transferred out of the program less than a month into their freshman seasons.

Those departures, plus the attempted transfer of sophomore guard Chelsey Lindsey, left Clemson with eight scholarship players for the majority of the 2012-13 season.

While Clemson put together a three-game ACC winning streak late in the year, it wasn't enough for Coleman to return for her fourth season.

The Lady Tigers were 25-63 overall under Coleman's watch, including 12-36 in ACC play.

The search for a new head coach will begin immediately. Top Stories
