Commitment capsule: Morris

Up next in our commitment capsule series is the second offensive line pledge to the 2014 class, three-star Maverick Morris.

The commitment: Maverick Morris, Coffee County High School [Douglas, Ga.]

Date committed: June 18, 2012

Ranked: Three-star, No. 98 OT

Other options: Marshall, Central Florida

Position status: It's been quite sometime since Clemson has had this much talent along the offensive line. Starting at right guard is Tyler Shatley. Kalon Davis and David Beasley, last year's starter, have battled for the starting job at left guard. Eric MacLain and Ryan Norton will also get some work at guard. Reid Webster, Patrick Destefano and Spencer Region are also at the position. Brandon Thomas, who starts at left tackle, has worked at guard in the past. Fellow class of 2014 signee Tyrone Crowder will play left guard.

The evaluation: I think he's a great character kid. He won't turn 18 until after he graduates -- I think the end of June. So he's got some growing up to do, as far as maturing. Not being immature, but as far as growth. He's probably 6-4, 6-5. He wrestled at 285. Here he is -- he's only 17 -- that's the maturity I'm talking about, physical maturity. He's a great kid, Comes from a great family, great stock. He runs very well for his size, so I think he's going to start off at guard…he's got a lot of football to learn, because he only started the last two years, but he grew the last two years. - Buddy Nobles, Coffee County head coach

Estimated impact: 2015. As noted by Nobles, Morris is young for his class, so a redshirt will be a benefit. And that's what we expect to happen this fall. After a full year of development at Clemson, Morris will compete for a spot in the two deep depth chart, likely at right guard. Top Stories
