Commitment capsule: Rogers

Up next in this year's commitment capsule series is three-star defensive end Dane Rogers.

The commitment: Dane Rogers, Crest High School [Shelby, N.C.]

Date committed: June 19, 2012

Ranked: Three-star, No. 67 DE

Other options: North Carolina, N.C. State, Tennessee, Rutgers

Position status: Clemson has a number of right-side defensive ends already on the roster, so it could be tough for Rogers to break through early on. Corey Crawford and Tavaris Barnes are listed as co-starters. Shaquille Lawson, who just wrapped up his first semester on campus, is third on the depth chart. On the other side, Victor Beasley is followed by Kevin Dodd then Martin Aiken.

The evaluation: "First thing is, the thing I like to say about Dane, he's a low maintenance, high character guy. I don't have to spend a lot of time on things [with him] that don't involve football, strength training and academics. He's a do right guy in the community. On the field, he's played defensive end here, in a really good program. Dane has played in two state championship games and started here since he was a freshman. Obviously, he's a good player and has been a good player." - Mark Barnes, Crest head coach

Estimated impact: 2015. All three right-side defensive ends will have eligibility left in 2014. Crawford and Barnes are both juniors and Lawson is a freshman. Assuming everyone is back in 2014, it could be difficult for Rogers to break through into the rotation during his second season on campus. It looks like he'll have to wait his turn before finding a spot in the two-deep.
