The commitment: Ryan Carter, Grayson High School [Loganville, Ga.]
Date committed: Feb. 6, 2013
Ranked: Three-star, No. 168 CB
Other options: Arkansas State, East Carolina, Southern Miss, Tulane
Position status: Clemson signed a boatload of defensive backs in the 2013 haul, five of which were safeties, including Carter. Cordrea Tankersley, Korrin Wiggins, Jadar Johnson and Jayron Kearse will play the position at Clemson. Already on the roster at the position before the five were signed were Robert Smith and Travis Blanks. Carter could, potentially, figure into the equation at the nickel position.
The evaluation: "Ryan is very explosive -- quick, fast [and] great closing speed. He is a very smart football player." - Grayson head coach Mickey Conn
Estimated impact: 2015. Based on his other offers and recruiting ranking, Carter is likely headed towards a redshirt during his first season on campus. But those things aren't always accurate indications as to who will or won't make an immediate impact. But there are some top-flight prospects that Carter will be competing with for playing time. His first impact could be felt on special teams.
