Morris sees Texas QB

Chad Morris was in Texas late last week to evaluation some of the best class of 2015 talent in his native state.

QB Chason Virgil Profile

On Thursday, he stopped by West-Mesquite High School for a scrimmage. There, he watched a pair of sophomores, quarterback Chason Virgil and wide receiver Akilian Butler.

Virgil plans to visit Clemson next month. Butler could, too.

"I'm just trying to see how they do things and how the coaches really feel about me," Virgil told CUTigers over the weekend. "Just getting to meet the coaches and get to know them a lot better, get to know them through this recruiting process.

"And, really, just getting a better relationship with coach Morris, because he's the quarterbacks coach."

Morris and Virgil remain in regular contact.

"I called him a couple of times and just talked about coming down to camp and being down there at Clemson a little bit more," Virgil said.

In addition to his January offer from Clemson, Virgil has added Nebraska, Arizona State, Missouri and Toledo.

He'll make a few other stops this summer.

"Besides Clemson, I'm going to Auburn's camp and Texas' camp," Virgil said.

Who leads?

"I don't really have any favorites right now. I think I'll start winding down my favorites towards the middle of the summer, going towards the end of the summer, I'll starting winding down to my top-five and picking between those."

A commitment will be made sometime before, during immediately after his junior season.

As a sophomore, Virgil completed 170 of 272 passes for 2,315 yards with 21 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also rushed 83 times for 395 yards and three touchdowns.
