FSU, Clemson battle for top DE

Recruited to Clemson as a defensive end, three-star tight end Rick Leonard announced his top-five on Sunday afternoon.

DE Ricky Leonard Profile

Via Twitter, Leonard listed Florida State, Clemson, Tennessee, Maryland and Nebraska as his finalists, in order.

He spoke with CUTigers on Sunday afternoon about each of the schools.

Florida State: For me, for many reasons, my dad went there. Coach [Sal] Sunseri has a great reputation for coaching d-ends. I know he coached in the league for probably 10 years. It's the second defense in the nation.

Clemson: For Clemson, I've been down there. They could be number one, too. They're tied [with FSU]. They're a great program with great coaches. Coach [Marion] Hobby is a helluva guy, the d-end coach.

Tennessee: I've heard great things about them. I haven't gotten down there yet, but I've heard great things about it. I'm just ready to get down there. It's in the SEC, so you're playing against some big boys.

Maryland: They're the instate school. I like what they have to offer. I would have a chance to go there and play right away. Coach [Greg] Gattuso, the d-line coach, he's a good guy and he knows what he's doing.

Nebraska: My head coach said some good things about them. It's a great place, good football. Big 10 football plays in the Rose Bowl.

Up next for Leonard is a return trip to Clemson.

"I'm going down to Clemson in June with my teammate [Justin Falcinelli]," he said. "I plan on hitting those five schools and making a decision soon."

As a junior, Leonard had 67 tackles, 12 sacks and 18.5 tackles for loss.
