Morris gives Texas WR first offer

Chad Morris stopped by West Mesquite High School in Texas last Thursday. Before leaving, he delivered an offer to this talented sophomore.

The Clemson offer was No.1 for Akilian Butler, a 5-foot-11, 170-pound wide receiver.

"I was very surprised. I didn't now that was coming," he told CUTigers this past weekend.

Butler's prior contact with Morris and the Clemson program was minimal.

"I had spoken with coach Morris, but not a full conversation. I spoke to him because they were recruiting me," Butler said.

Former Clemson commitment Dylan Sumner-Gardner is one of Butler's teammates.

"As soon a Dylan got back, I asked him a lot of questions about the campus and how did he like the facilities and the coaches," Butler said.

Butler will get to see it for himself next month when he visits the Clemson campus with his classmate/quarterback Chason Virgil.

"I'm looking forward to seeing the facility and how the coaches are, how the players are toward the coaches and how their work ethic is," Butler said.

Also this summer, he'll visit Baylor and Texas A&M.

As a sophomore, Butler had 28 catches for 380 yards and three touchdowns. Top Stories
