Chip, meet shoulder

You can't spell chip on your shoulder without Ryan Carter, the former Grayson High School defensive back who signed with Clemson.

Based on the comments by one time Clemson commitment Robert Nkemdiche, there was a perception that Carter's ticket to Tigertown was punched by his former high school teammate.

That wasn't the case at all. Because of that notion, Carter said he'll arrive to Clemson with a rather large chip on his shoulder.

"For sure, just because all of that happened with Rob and everything. It definitely -- the chance for me to show it wasn't all about Rob. That wasn't what we were trying to do," Carter said.

Carter looks forward to proving the doubters wrong when he gets to the Clemson campus on Sunday.

"I'm just so excited, just because I've been waiting so long to get with the team, to put on pads again and just be in that atmosphere," he said.

Carter could play either safety or cornerback in college. That all depends on how things shake out during camp -- whichever spot he looks better playing.

"I'm just trying to go and see how camp goes. I want to play as early as I can. I just have to see how it goes, but I want to play early," he said.
