SG Gabe DeVoe Profile
Clemson began recruiting Shelby High School shooting guard Gabe Devoe during his junior year. Saturday was his first trip to Tigertown.
"It was a really nice campus. You wouldn't have as many distractions as other schools. I kind of liked that. It was nice," DeVoe told CUTigers on Sunday.
In addition to his Clemson offer, DeVoe has received offers from several mid-major schools, the newest ones coming from Xavier, Georgia Southern, Appalachian State and Richmond.
There's a stipulation to Clemson's. There are no seniors on the 2013-14 roster and all 13 scholarships are currently occupied.
"I guess it depends on if somebody leaves…they were talking about if the scholarship didn't open up, I could go to a prep school for a year, but I don't really want to do that," DeVoe said.
Clemson was his last visit of the summer. He's also taken trips to Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Xavier, Charlotte and Davidson this summer.
"Of the places I've been, [Clemson] was one of the nicer locker rooms, a big, nice arena. The new arena is coming up, I think, in the next four years, or something like that," DeVoe said.
With no list of favorites at the moment, DeVoe plans to narrow his choices down closer to the end of summer.
"I'm in the process of doing that. I'm going to wait until the end of July. I'm going to pick out the ones I'm most interested in, the top, and go from there," he said.
As a junior at Shelby, DeVoe averaged 20 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists. On the AAU circuit, he's playing with the Forest City Heat.
Earl Grant serves as the point man in DeVoe's recruitment.
