Anthony movin' on up

We're into the top 10 of our countdown and the first of two linebackers is up -- junior Stephone Anthony.

CUTigers continues the list of the 25 players we think will have the most productive seasons in 2013.

No. 8

MLB Stephone Anthony, Junior
When Anthony was a senior at Anson High School in Wadesboro, N.C., he was rated by a five-star and ranked the No. outside linebacker in the country.

The Resume

Anthony, who will wear the No. 42 this year, began his sophomore season as the Tigers' starting middle linebacker. He spent seven games there before Spencer Shuey took over the starting spot.

Last season, Anthony played a total of 459 snaps, during which he had 77 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and a sack. He also broke up two passes and had an interception.

A three-game starter as a freshman, Anthony had 32 tackles, six tackles for loss and two sacks over 292 snaps.

Moving Forward

Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables called Anthony a "prototypical middle linebacker" during spring practice. Sure enough, Anthony entered and exited spring ball as the starter at MIKE.

Shuey could slide back to the middle from the weak-side, but he's listed as the starter at the WILL.

Behind Anthony on the depth chart are B.J. Goodson and Kellen Jones. Freshman Ben Boulware could figure into the mix, too.

After playing much of last season with brace on his wrist/hand, Anthony is healthy and could be poised for breakout season in 2013.
