Emanuel McGirt played well last fall. Not surprisingly, college coaching staffs have taken notice.
"Clemson, N.C. State, Georgia Tech, Duke, ECU and Virginia Tech are recruiting me," said the 6-foot-5, 250-pound McGirt. "I'm waiting on my first offer, though."
Which school could be the first to offer the rising junior?
"I think Georgia Tech could be first," McGirt said. "I know (quarterbacks coach) Coach (Bryan) Cook is coming to see me play when they play Duke this season."
The Yellow Jackets are not the only pursuing him hard.
"(North Carolina) State is also recruiting me hard," he said. "I visited there last Friday and talked to (running backs coach) Coach (Desmond) Kitchings. He likes me and they've talked about offering. They're coming to see me play this fall, too. They said if I perform, I'll have an offer by then."
Although it is early in the recruiting process, McGirt said one school has really impressed him.
"Clemson is standing out," he said. "I went on a visit there few Saturdays ago with my dad. (Tight ends coach) Coach (Danny) Pearman showed me around. He told me that they like my frame. He also said he was going to come watch me, Donte (Thomas-Williams) and Trevion (Thompson) play this fall."
The Hillside offensive lineman already knows some places he will visit this fall.
"I know I'm going to N.C. State when they play Clemson," said McGirt. "I'll probably also go to Duke and Clemson."
Hillside opens their season on August 23 against New Bern.
