Blanks is No. 6

Now that Travis Blanks is playing free safety, his natural position, it could be a big season for the former four-star from Tallahassee.

CUTigers continues the list of the 25 players we think will have the most productive seasons in 2013.

No. 6

FS Travis Blanks, Sophomore
For the most part, Blanks was strong during his first season of college ball. As a freshman, he was the starter at the nickel/SAM position for first-year defensive coordinator Brent Venables.

The Resume

Blanks played more than any other on the Clemson roster last season. He finished with 51 tackles, one interception and seven pass breakups in 563 snaps over 13 games last season

At the end of the year, Blanks was named second-team Freshman All-American.

Moving Forward

Blanks spent some time at free safety last season, but it was just a handful of snaps. He's moved into a full-time role there and is expected to maintain that starting job throughout the duration of his career.

Any one of the incoming freshmen could challenge him for time, sooner rather than later.

Korrin Wiggins, Jayron Kearse and Cordrea Tankersley could all spend some time at free safety during their respective careers.

After spring practice, walk-on Taylor Watson was listed as the No. 2 free safety.
