No. 33 is five

Five players are left on the 2013 top countdown and there is just one more defensive player left after Spencer Shuey checks in at No. 5.

CUTigers continues the list of the 25 players we think will have the most productive seasons in 2013.

No. 5

LB Spencer Shuey, Redshirt Senior
Coming out of Charlotte's South Mecklenburg High School, Shuey was rated by Scout.com as a three-star defensive end.

The Resume

Shuey bounced around a little bit before setting in at middle linebacker last season. At one point in his career, he played the Bandit defensive end position.

In 2012, he broke out. There was a marked improvement by the Clemson defense when Shuey was inserted into the lineup midway through last season.

Shuey had 93 tackles, six tackles for loss, one sack, two quarterback pressures, and one pass breakup in 502 snaps over 13 games, seven of which he started.

He's also been solid special teams player over the last three years. During his career, he has 30 special teams tackles.

Moving Forward

Despite a strong performance at middle linebacker, Shuey was moved over to the weak-side during spring practice. There, he'll replace last year's leading tackler, Jonathan Willard.

Shuey, a senior, will be on the field at the same time with Stephone Anthony, who's listed as the starter in the middle.

Behind Shuey at WILL are Kellen Jones and Tony Steward. Though Shuey isn't listed on the depth chart as the second MIKE, it's our assumption that he could slide back into the middle if needed.
