The Deuce is No. 2

Sammy Watkins had a monster freshman season but a not so big sophomore campaign. Clemson fans hope he has a repeat of 2011.

CUTigers is down to the final two players we think will have the most productive season in 2013.

No. 2

WR Sammy Watkins, Junior
Coming out of high school in 2011, rated Watkins as a five-star wide receiver and ranked him as the No. 5 player at the position.

The Resume

An offseason arrest resulted in a two-game suspension for Watkins' sophomore campaign. He also missed the Boston College game with an injury and most of the bowl game with an injury.

Over 10 games, Watkins had 57 receptions for 708 yards and three touchdowns, 97 yards on 14 carries and one touchdown, three punt returns for 11 yards and 13 kickoff returns for 257 yards in 403 snaps.

In 2011, Watkins became Clemson's first freshman to be named a first-team All-American. He was given the nod by the AP and, making him the first freshman in ACC history to be an AP First-Team All-American. Watkins was just the fourth first-year freshman in NCAA history to earn AP First-Team All-America honors, joining Herschel Walker (1980) of Georgia, Marshall Faulk (1991) of San Diego State, and Adrian Peterson (2004) of Oklahoma.

Voted ACC Rookie of the Year, Watkins was one of 15 semifinalists for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award and one of 10 semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award.

An All-ACC selection as a wide receiver and second-team All-ACC selection as a specialist; he became the first Tiger freshman to earn First-Team All-ACC honors since 1995 and the first freshman wide receiver in school history to earn First-Team All-ACC honors.

Watkins finished his freshman season with 82 receptions for 1,219 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also had 231 yards on 32 carries, and 33 kickoff returns for 826 yards and a score.

Moving Forward

As he gears up for what figures to be the final year at Clemson, Watkins has moved over to the 9-position, the spot DeAndre Hopkins played in each of the last two seasons. Watkins will continue to work some at the 2-position, but a majority of his snaps could be in Hopkins' old position.

Behind Watkins at the 9 is Martavis Bryant. Over at the 2 is Adam Humphries, who filled in for Watkins last season. Germone Hopper could also work at the 2.

Assuming he stays out of trouble and has a productive season, Watkins is likely to be taken in the first-round of the NFL Draft next spring.
