"Coming into today, I was just talking to my parents more about it, talking to my family about how I thought it would be a good fit, so I went ahead and committed," DeVoe told CUTigers on Tuesday night.

It was around 6 o'clock Tuesday night when the Shelby High School [N.C.] rising senior told Brad Brownell and Earl Grant he was ready to commit.

"It was pretty exciting. They were excited about it. We just talked about everything. It was just really exciting," DeVoe said.

A number of factors led to his commitment to Clemson.

"Clemson, even without the basketball -- I'm a good student and big on academics -- so, even without basketball, Clemson is still a good fit academically. It's a top academic school.

"When it comes to basketball, I really like the coaching staff. I thought I would be a good fit there."

Virginia Tech, Butler, Xavier, Charlotte, Richmond, Marshall and Appalachian State also offered.

As a junior at Shelby, DeVoe averaged 20 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists.
