Ready to commit

On Sunday afternoon, three-star defensive end Rick Leonard revealed on Twitter that he plans to announce his commitment on Tuesday.

The Middletown High School [Maryland] rising senior told CUTigers later that day that he will commit to either Clemson or Florida State.

"I feel like I needed to take some time after I came back from my Florida State visit. I just needed time to talk with my parents and my coaches about some stuff…I think I've got my decision," Leonard said.

Ranked by Scout.com as the No. 32 defensive end in the class of 2014, Leonard shared a few reasons why Clemson and Florida State are his two finalists.

Clemson: The thing about Clemson, it's a very big family atmosphere. They put God first. They're Christians. It's beautiful down there in South Carolina. They're winning for all of the right reasons. I've never seen them doing anything wrong. It's a good program.

FSU: I really like coach Sal Sunseri, the d-ends coach. I loved the atmosphere when I went down there. I learned what they're all about, their defense. It's a great program.

Leonard visited Clemson in June with teammate and 2014 Clemson pledge Justin Falcinelli. Leonard went to Florida State for three days in July.

The announcement will be pretty low key. No press conference. No hat show.

"I just plan on calling the coach and telling him," Leonard said.

He called the recruiting process a "blessing."

"It's been everything I've dreamed about…it's stressful at times, too. I'm ready to get it over with. I know where I'm going and I'm ready to take on the 2013 season," Leonard said.

As a junior, Leonard had 67 tackles, 12 sacks and 18.5 tackles for loss.
