Thompson setting timeline

DURHAM, N.C. - Josh Cabrera's verbal commitment to UNC means that each of Trevion Thompson's final six have at least two receiver prospects verbally committed.

"It plays a factor somewhat, but at the end of the day all schools are going to have receivers," Thompson said. "And at the end of the day I'm going to have to compete for a spot once I get there. That's the way that I see it."

Trevion Thompson's finalists list consists of Clemson, Florida State, UNC, NC State, Ohio State, and West Virginia. Ohio State and West Virginia have three projected wide receivers committed, while Florida State has four.

"I'm aware of it," Thompson said. "But like I said, I know I'm going to have to compete and I'm not afraid to compete."

With that said, there's been no change within Thompson's final group.

"Everybody is equal [among the six]," Thompson said. "I'm still looking into all schools and getting together the information on academics and stuff."

Thompson won't trim his list any further until decision time. Decision time, he has decided, will come at the football season's midpoint.

"I'm just going to keep looking into the schools and seeing which ones I really like," Thompson said.

Additionally, Thompson will attend several college football games this fall. During opening weekend, he'll be in Death Valley for the Clemson-Georgia game. Then, he hopes his school schedule will allow him to be on hand for the NC State-Clemson Thursday game. He's also working out the details to attend a second Thursday night game – UNC's "Zero Dark Thursday" matchup against Miami. He figures to travel to his three remaining finalists – Florida State, Ohio State, and West Virginia – for games, but hasn't singled out any contests.

These game trips will be unofficial visits, but Thompson hasn't ruled out the possibility of converting them to officials.

Focused on preparation for his senior season, Thompson says he hasn't communicated much with any college coaching staff.

The last time Thompson spoke to someone from UNC was a couple of weeks ago. During that conversation, which included both assistant coaches Gunter Brewer and Randy Jordan, the UNC coaches didn't express any urgency for Thompson to make a decision.

"They're pretty much recruiting me as if they didn't have any recruits," Thompson said.
