In the top three

Junior cornerback Mark Fields is high on three schools right now. Clemson is one of them. Where do they fit? And who else is in that group?

DB Mark Fields Profile

The Hough High School [Cornelius, N.C.] prospect was in Clemson last month for the Georgia game. Joining him were his mom and little brother.

"I had a real good time. I got to talk with some of the players. I got to talk with some of the coaches. I had a real good time down there at the game," Fields told CUTigers.

He spoke with Germone Hopper, who's also from the Charlotte area.

"Our 7-on-7 coach is real good friends with him, so we were just talking about that. We saw him during the warm-up," Fields said

Fields also caught up with running backs coach Tony Elliott and defensive backs coach Mike Reed. Elliott serves as Clemson's primary recruiter for Fields and other prospects at Hough.

"Coach Reed told me how he wanted me to be a Clemson Tiger and he wanted me to keep them up there high on my board," Fields said. "Coach Elliott was just telling me the ins and outs of college, how Clemson made him a man, stuff like that. If you don't want to be coached hard and be the best, then Clemson isn't for you."

It was his fourth game visit to Clemson. He'll take other visits to other schools this fall.

"I know I'm going to a South Carolina game. I think I'm going to a Tennessee game. That's about it for games," Fields said.

Those schools make up his list. In order, he named that trio.

"Right now, it's South Carolina, Clemson, Tennessee…out of the seven [offers] that I have right now, those are the three that kind of stand out the most," Fields said.

What stands out about Clemson?

"They're very family oriented. Dabo Swinney is a real religious man and I'm kind of big on that. That's kind of cool. He just wants to get the best out of his players. That's what I really like about him. That's how any coach is, but I just see it more with him."

Through three games this season, Fields has two pass breakups and an interception. Top Stories
