Elite DE returns to Clemson

Michael Barnett, one of the top 2015 prospects in the state of South Carolina, was in Clemson for the Georgia game.

DE Michael Barnett Profile

Not only was it his first game day visit to Clemson, it was the first college football game he'd seen in person.

"It was pretty good. I liked the atmosphere and everybody in the stands was going crazy. Everybody was loud," Barnett told CUTigers.

And it wasn't a bad first game to see.

"It was pretty good. I didn't know what to expect, but everybody else was just saying, just wait til they come down the hill. That's when everybody goes crazy," Barnett said. "I witnessed that. It was pretty crazy to see that, pretty cool to see that."

Dabo Swinney spoke to him after the game.

"It was in the locker room afterwards, after he gave his speech to the players," Barnett said.

Barnett added, "He was just excited I came to the game. He was just happy."

Defensive ends coach Marion Hobby and running backs coach Tony Elliott also caught up with him.

"They really want me to come down there. They want me to be a Tiger," Barnett said. "Coach Hobby tells me every time he sees that he can just see me coming off the end, causing disruption and stuff like that."

Barnett also spoke with Clemson safety Robert Smith, who went to Woodland High School, where Barnett is a junior.

"He said he really likes it. He really likes the fans, gets hyped up when they go crazy. He likes the atmosphere. He likes stuff like that," Barnett said. "He said [the coaches] talk about me all the time. They really want me to come up there."

Clemson, Florida, Florida State, N.C. State, Tennessee and Virginia Tech have offered. Auburn, UNC and Ohio State have been expressing interest, too.

In order, who leads?

"Virginia Tech, Florida, Florida State, N.C. State and Clemson."

The Hokies are on top for a couple of reasons.

"Because they were on me from the get-go, I really like how they treat you like family up there," Barnett said. "It's a really nice atmosphere, as far as everybody getting along. The players are real cool. They say how the coaches recruit you is how they are. That's basically said that I've met with. I really like that about a coach."
