Clemson offers Bama cornerback

One of the nation's top cornerbacks in the class of 2015 added a Clemson offer earlier this month. Where do the Tigers stand? Who leads?

On Sept. 9, Clemson threw its hat into the ring for Minor High School [Adamsville, Ala.] junior cornerback Maurice Smitherman.

Oregon, Arkansas, Miami, Ole Miss, Louisville and Texas A&M have also offered.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound prospect is still learning about Clemson.

"I know they've got a good defense this year, a good offense. They've got a good chance to go to the national championship," he said, during a recent interview with CUTigers.

Smitherman added, "It's a place that I want to look at and learn more about."

Over the summer, LSU, Vanderbilt and South Alabama hosted him for camp visits. So far this fall, he made it to Athens for the Georgia-South Carolina game.

There is no list of favorites, at least not yet.

"I don't have any favorites right now," he said.

A number of factors will be considered as Smitherman approaches his decision.

"My relationship with the coaches, the fan base, how the school is and the academic system," he said.
