Wowed by the visit

Defensive end is one of the few remaining priorities on the 2014 Clemson recruiting board. Several targets at that position visited on Saturday.

DE Cory Thomas Profile

One of those senior defensive end visitors was Cory Thomas, a three-star prospect from McAdory High School in McCalla, Ala.

"I really enjoyed myself, for it to be my first time up in Clemson," he told CUTigers, after the trip.

Thomas, who's classified by as a defensive tackle, is on the Tiger's board as a defensive end. He got into town at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon before arriving at the West End Zone facility around 4:30.

"I took a little tour of the football facilities, talked to the coaches," he said.

Dabo Swinney, Marion Hobby and Dan Brooks all greeted him. Thomas shared what was discussed with the three coaches.

With Swinney…

"He was just telling me that they want me there. He feels like Clemson is a nice fit for me. He was telling me some nice things."

With Hobby…

"It was basically the same thing. He was just telling me that Clemson is where it's at. He knows I would like it because he grew up a ‘Bama boy and so did coach Swinney, so they know the east coast life. They know I'd like it."

With Brooks…

"Just pretty much the same. He was glad to see me."

Plenty stood out about Clemson.

"I would say the atmosphere, before the game started," Thomas said. "Basically, before I came, everybody was telling me that Clemson, the atmosphere was going to be crazy and the fan base was too. When I got to see it for myself first-hand, it was like, wow."

Thomas visited Tennessee earlier this season and he'll return to Knoxville for the Alabama game. Florida State will host Thomas for an official visit the weekend of the Miami game. Florida will have him in for an official visit the weekend of the Florida State game.

In addition to an official visit to Clemson in January, Tennessee and Mississippi State will also get officials from Thomas.

Who leads?

"Tennessee is my leader. My top five is Tennessee, Mississippi State, Florida, Florida State and Clemson."

Thomas confirmed that is his list, in order.

Why Tennessee up top?

"I love their coaching staff. Something about coach [Butch] Jones, I like the way he coaches guys up. They're losing like seven guys off their d-line. That could be a good fit for me." Top Stories
