Tigers return to action at Littlejohn

CLEMSON - Both Clemson and Furman are looking to bounce back after a loss in their previous outings.

WHAT: Clemson vs. Furman
WHERE: Clemson, S.C. - Littlejohn Coliseum
WHEN: Saturday, Dec. 14 (7 p.m.)
TV: ESPN3 (Don Munson, Ralph Patterson)

Clemson fell 74-68 at Arkansas last Saturday. Furman dropped a 97-93 game to Mars Hill at home on Tuesday.

The Paladins are 4-5 this season with losses to Florida Gulf Cost, College of Charleston, Virginia Tech, Fordham and, of course, Mars Hill, a D-2 team.

They're an ideal opponent for Brad Brownell's 7-2 Tigers.

"It will be interesting to see how our guys respond after being in finals all week. We practiced a couple of days, but we did take some time off," he said. "Hopefully, our guys' minds will be clear and focused, and they'll be ready to have a good performance."

The biggest challenges will be Furman's point guard, Stephen Croone, who averages 20.4 points per game, and shooting guard Larry Wideman, who's scoring 14.1 per contest.

"I like Wideman," Brownell said. "I think he played pretty well against us last year, too, made a few shots. Both of those guys are good, young players…shoot the ball well, especially Wideman. Most of Rod Hall's night will be spent check Croone.

"He's a fast point guard, looking to attack and draw fouls. He shoots, like, eight free-throws a game," Hall said. "So, basically, have to worry about keeping him in front of you without fouling."

Furman is led by first-year head coach Niko Medved.

"They've got some perimeter shooting that you've got to be worried about," Brownell said. "The big kid inside, [Kendric] Ferrara, is going to develop into a nice player. He has a good feel, is a good passer, has good hands.

"They run some motion, so it will be some similar things that we do, in terms of motion and some sets, trying to isolate the best players, really manage the clock."
