Four-star OT ready to see Clemson

At some point not all that long after the calendar turns from 2013 to 2014, this four-star offensive tackle prospect from Tampa, Fla. will hit the road to visit some of the top programs around the south.

OT Jake Fruhmorgen Profile

Plant High School junior Jake Fruhmorgen isn't certain of the exact dates, but he does know some of the destinations.

"I think we want to see Clemson, South Carolina, Georgia, a big tour of the SEC and the south, other schools that are close by," he said, during a weekend interview with CUTigers.

Clemson is of particular interest to Fruhmorgen because his father, John Fruhmorgen, lettered at Alabama from 1986-88. Dabo Swinney walked on to the Crimson Tide in 1989.

"My dad knows coach Swinney. He knew him from Alabama," the younger Fruhmorgen said. "He came to my school a couple of weeks ago. He came before the Dr. Phillips game. We got to see him before chapel, [him] and coach [Tony] Elliott."

When Fruhmorgen visits Clemson and those other schools, he'll evaluate one critical area.

"I just want a good atmosphere," he said. "I like to be comfortable where I'm at. That's so important to my decision. If you go to a place and you don't feel good vibes, don't have a good feeling about it, it's not going to be a place for you to grow as a player.

"So I'm looking for a good place for me to become a better player, better human being, to be a better man in life."

With 29 offers to his name, Fruhmorgen isn't ready to list any favorites. The only school he's visited is Florida.

"That would be kind of dumb of me to say I like a school, based on how good they are, how successful they've been. It's just, I want to find a comfortable place," Fruhmorgen said.

After the tour, Fruhmorgen will "probably" have a top-five.

"I have an idea of what I like and what I'm looking for, what I've heard of, but I can't be that naïve. I've got to check it out," he said.

A decision could come as early as the spring.

"Probably before the season, hopefully, but it might not be," Fruhmorgen said. rates Fruhmorgen as the No. 10 offensive tackle in the class of 2015. Top Stories
