The Clemson coaching staff is close to adding the verbal commitment from one of the top pass rushers in the country.

DE Richard Yeargin Profile

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) University School linebacker Richard Yeargin informed the Irish staff on Friday night that he was decommitting from Notre Dame.

Less than 24 hours later, it was thought he had offically committed to Clemson, according to sources. Turns out that's not the case just yet.

The four-star outside linebacker is ranked as the No. 17 prospect at his position in the country by and will now wait until National Signing Day to announce his school of choice.

Clemson still figures to be in good shape.

"Yeargin is big and very long with a frame to bulk up and add a ton of weight," notes recruiting analyst Jamie Newberg. "He possesses good short area quickness. This is an outside linebacker that plays with a burst and can locate the ball quickly.

"Yeargin does a nice job of playing in space, showing good feet and balance and the ability to stay with smaller players. He's a good pass rusher."

Yeargin visited Clemson officially in November, just three months after pledging to the Fighting Irish.

Yeargin transferred from Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade Madonna to Ft. Lauderdale University School. Top Stories
