Jordan Bruner, of Columbia (S.C.) Spring Valley, is spending quite a bit of his sophomore season playing in the paint.
"I'm doing all right," the 2016 prospect said about his season. "There are things I got to work on. The way I play is going to have to change a little bit. I'm just trying to focus on what my high school team needs me to do."
But at 6-foot-7, Bruner is more of a hybrid forward than a true post player. For his high school team, his production needs to come in the paint, but once the spring hits, Bruner wants to play facing the rim a little more.
"A lot of time in AAU I have the ball in my hands a lot more," Bruner said. "I'm on the perimeter more during the AAU season and that's not what my high school needs me to do."
That type of versatility, to go with Bruner's length, athleticism and mobility, is sure to draw Bruner more and more college looks as his high school career develops.
At this stage, Bruner said the local schools – South Carolina and Clemson – have shown interest, as has Miami, Virginia Tech and "a couple of SEC schools."
"It's a variety of interest from everybody," Bruner added.
Bruner has already taken unofficial visits to South Carolina and Clemson.
"They are just showing interest and wanting me to come to games," Bruner said about the two local schools. "They are showing a decent amount of interest. The head coach from Clemson has come to a decent amount of games this season.
"Coach [Frank] Martin has come to a couple of practices this season," he added. "I'm not sure if he's been to any games."
Bruner is planning to play with the Upward Stars on the spring and summer circuit.
Columbia big drawing interest
