"I recently picked up my first offer from South Carolina," said Javon Kinlaw. "It feels great to know that a school like that is already looking at me. It definitely makes me want to work harder."
He is developing a good relationship with his recruiting coach at the school.
"(Wide receivers) coach (Steve) Spurrier Jr. is recruiting me," said 6-foot-6, 286-pound Kinlaw. "He's a funny guy and I feel like I can talk to him about anything. I also think it's a great program."
Along with the Gamecocks, Kinlaw has heard from Miami, Georgia, Clemson, Penn State, Wisconsin and Michigan. He mentioned Tennessee and LSU as schools he hoped to hear from in the near future.
Although there are no set dates, Kinlaw is looking forward to taking some visits and attending some camps.
"Clemson and South Carolina both want me to visit, so I'll probably go to those two schools this spring," he said. "Then this summer, I want to go to as many camps as possible. I want to go to Clemson, South Carolina, Florida State, Penn State and Tennessee."
Kinlaw is working hard in the offseason.
"I'm working on my speed and footwork," he said. "I'm playing basketball for my school and I've lost 25 to 30 pounds." He is looking forward to a big junior season.
"We want to be better than we were last year," Kinlaw said. "Our main goal is to get to win state."
