Clemson, USC and Auburn have all offered this speedster from the great state of South Carolina.
Last season, Troy Williamson caught 38 passes for 690 yards and rushed for over 1200 yards. All in all, e accounted for 22 touchdowns while helping lead Silver Bluff to the 2-A State Championship.
Williamson is one of the state's fastest players, if not the fastest (documented under a 4.4 40-yard dash). He won the state 2A 100 meters championship and was second in the 200 meters. He has also been an all-state peformer in track for 3 straight years. Don't be fooled into thinking he is only a track guy though. Troy squatted over 410 lbs this past year and is considered to be a very tough football player.
Williamson is currently ranked as the #13 player in the state of South Carolina according to SCPrepFootball.com. He has also been named to The Sporting News pre-season list of the Top 125 players in the nation, and Tom Lemming's Top 100 players (ESPN.com).
Williamson camped at only two schools this summer, Clemson and USC and sources close to Williamson expect him to stay in-state.
Although the debate rages on as to which wide receivers the Tigers will get in 2002, make no mistake, this guy is a keeper. I would expect the number of offers Troy Williamson receives to increase dramtically before signing day.
Some experts project him as a cover corner in college, and with his speed, its hard to argue that possibility. He'll also have the chance to return punts and kickoffs, as he returned 2 for touchdowns this past season.
