Atlanta NFTC: Recruiting Notes

Some of the best in the country were at Lassiter High School Sunday to compete at the Nike Football Training Camp. Scout gives you the latest in their recruitment here...

***Scout 300 running back Eric Swinney has named his top five, it is Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. He plans to cut his list to three this summer and he could commit before the season starts. The schools are in no order.

***A leader emerging for 2016 defensive lineman Derrick Brown? The 15 year old out of Sugar Hill (Ga.) Lanier has 15 offers and Auburn stands out to him. He has been there four times now and he likes their atmosphere and campus.

***Four-star defensive end Austin Bryant is still open, but that could change soon. I still want to get to Clemson, Georgia, South Carolina, and Stanford this spring or summer, then I could start to narrow my list down. He visited Florida Saturday and he was impressed by defensive line coach Brad Lawing.

***Notre Dame is the last school to offer 2016 tight end Isaac Nauta. The Buford, Ga. star plans to visit South Bend, In. in the near future. He also wants to get to Florida State. Right now, Nauta likes Auburn, Clemson, FSU, Georgia, Michigan, and South Carolina. He spent Saturday at South Carolina.

***Montavious Atkinson recently committed to Auburn, so will close friend D'Andre Walker join him on the plains? "We are going to make our own decisions," Walker said. "We would love to play together, but if it does not happen, that is fine. Just because he chose Auburn does not mean I am going to. A lot of people are saying that though."

***Four-star defensive end Michael Barnett out of Dorchester (S.C.) Woodlawn has a top three - It is Florida State, Georgia, and North Carolina State. He is not close to a decision. He plans to take his official visits first.

***Oregon had Scout 100 athlete Taj Griffin on their campus recently and all went well. "I just fit in well overall there," said Griffin. "I like what they have there and the coaches are great too." Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon, and USC are his top school.

***May 25 is the date for Chuma Edoga. The top overall prospect for Scout at the Atlanta NFTC will commit on that day, the day he will turn 17 years old. The Scout 100 offensive tackle out of Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern is down to Georgia, Stanford, Tennessee, and USC.

***Four-star athlete Micah Abernathy is "wide open" right now. He hopes to narrow his list down close to the beginning of his season. He plans to take all five official visits, so he wants to have his list down around September 1. Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee are the schools recruiting him the hardest.

***"It is a relief to have it [recruiting process] behind me," said five-star Mitch Hyatt. Hyatt said that schools have started to back off and that his recruitment has really slowed down since he committed to Clemson on Signing Day 2014. "I am done," Hyatt said.

***Five-star cornerback Kevin Toliver was invited to The Opening Sunday and he will likely wear some LSU gear in Oregon. "I am 110-percent to LSU. Make sure put that extra one in there too," Tolver said with a laugh. He is planning to attend the LSU spring game next month. Plenty of schools are still in pursuit of Toliver and he named Auburn, Ohio State, and UCLA are the three showing the most interest now.

***Alabama and Georgia are the top two for 2016 four-star wideout Demetris Robertson. He has offers from each, he has visited each, and he feels the same about each. He could commit this summer or early in the fall.

***The No. 1 receiver in the country Preston Williams remains committed to Tennessee and he calls Knoxville "home" right now. Other schools are still on his radar though. "I am still leaving my options open even though I am committed," said Williams. "Georgia is on me hard, Alabama is on me, and a lot of schools are. I am going to keep visiting other schools, but I am committed to Tennessee." He plans to be in Knoxville for the UT spring game.

***Roquan Smith was at Auburn Saturday and he has been there half a dozen times now. He called his visit to AU "great" and the Tigers are high on his list. His next visit will be to Georgia on April 5. The Scout 100 linebacker out of Montezuma (Ga.) Macon County plans to have his list down to five by the time the season starts. Top Stories
