Manny Bowen spoke with CUTigers just moments after he got off the phone with Venables.

"I spoke with coach Venables and he told me they were confident in my skills and they liked me as a player, they like everything they've seen on film and they were going to give me an official offer to Clemson," Bowen said.

The Barnegat junior, who is rated by as the No. 31 outside linebacker in the class of 2015, checks in at 6-2, 205. Before Monday, his contact with Clemson was non-existent.

"My coach said they were interested, but I never spoke to Clemson until today," he said.

Even though he's just now being recruited by Clemson and has never visited the campus, Bowen has a pretty good feeling for Clemson and what's been going on around Tigertown.

"There are some good players that they're sending to the draft this year. I watched their performance in the bowl game against Ohio State," he said. "Their tradition and a little bit about their family and everything over there. I've got some knowledge on Clemson."

With close to 20 offers, Bowen is not in a position to list any favorites. He's trying to get out and see more schools. That will pick up this week with a trip to Penn State.

A trip down south to Clemson is "definitely a priority" for Bowen.

"Definitely finding a place that could be like a home to me, not close to home, but somewhere you're living for the next four or five years, just a matter of being comfortable there, and actually feeling at home where I am," he said. "And somewhere I can get educated to the best of my abilities and on the field where I can get coached to the best of my abilities, become the best player I can, hopefully make it to the next level."

As a junior, Bowen had 68 tackles and had 2.5 sacks. He also intercepted four passes. As a wide receiver, he hauled in 25 catches for 479 yards and seven touchdowns. Top Stories
