CB Darnay Holmes Profile
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound prospect from Newbury Park High School was in town with fellow freshman wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson and his father, Keyshawn, the former NFL wide receiver.
CUTigers caught up with Holmes on Thursday, shortly after the visit ended.
"It was very nice. The coaches were very nice. They're very into it during practice," Holmes said. "Coach [Chad] Morris is a great guy. Practice was high-tempo. They were competing with each other.
"Even though it was a short practice, with the spring game coming up, they were still going very hard at each other. I saw the corners and the next big receiver they've got, he's a freshman. It was very nice to go on this trip."
Jeff Scott delivered the news of Holmes' offer with Morris standing by his side.
"It was a big surprise for me and little Keyshawn, because we went back to the stadium and back to the PAW. They were like, come up to the PAW one more time, that's when they made it official," Holmes said. "They said, ‘Thank you, guys, for coming out here. Last, but not least, we're offering you and Keyshawn a scholarship.' So, it was a blessing."
Holmes' first Clemson experience was a positive one, even before the offer was extended.
"Just the city itself, they had nice weather…they gave us a tour, the school and the architecture was very nice," he said. "They're creating a new facility for football-only. They'll have a basketball court in the new facility -- three fields and a little river surround the fields. That's pretty nice. That stood out to me."
Holmes and the Johnsons visited Ohio State before the Clemson trip. Later this spring, Holmes will head up to northern California to see schools like Cal, Stanford and Fresno State. Earlier this spring, he visited UCLA, Arizona and Arizona State.
Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado State, Louisville, Mississippi State, Tennessee, UCLA and Utah have also offered.
