Morris, Tigers offer Florida WR

Before going on to play at Texas A&M, Byron Jones was an All-State cornerback for Chad Morris at Bay City High School, which sits just outside of Houston.

Jones is now the cornerbacks coach at Plant City High School in Florida. One of the top players on the team, sophomore Tavares Chase, picked up an offer from Morris on Monday.

"[Sunday], coach Chad Morris called him and asked about me," Chase told CUTigers on Monday night.

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound prospect already has several early offers, including Kentucky, Miami, USF, Temple, UCF and Virginia Tech.

Clemson's offer caught him off guard.

"I did what I had to do in the season…I felt like it was going to come eventually, but it still hit me today when they told me," Chase said. "It was still a big surprise."

It was a good surprise.

When asked if he'd been hoping to receive an offer from Clemson, Chase said, "Yeah, big time."

His familiarity with Clemson has lot to do with a former Tiger wide receiver.

"I know, last season, I used to watch Sammy Watkins. They put the ball in their playmakers' hands, so that's what I like about them," he said. "I'm a playmaker, so if I go there, they'll try to do the same thing."

A trip to Tigertown could be on the horizon.

"They told me to come up there for camp with my coach, so I could stay up there for three days with them," Chase said.

He will go to Florida and Florida State's camps this summer.

As a sophomore, Chase had 24 catches for 562 yards receiving with five touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball, he had 43 tackles and four interceptions.
